A splinter saga (with an update)

After lunch on Tuesday, I noticed that Jake's thumb was swollen. Upon further inspection, he has a splinter under the nail of his thumb. Since his thumb was obviously infected, we went to the clinic to get it checked out. We got some antibiotics for the infection and a referral to a German pediatrician for today.
We went to the pediatrician today, and he cleaned out all the puss, but wasn't able to get to the splinter. The doctor put some ointment on his thumb and a huge bandage, and we are to go back tomorrow. If he can't get it out, we'll have to go to surgery for them to take it out. Can you believe it? For a splinter!

On the plus side, it doesn't seem to bother him too much, and he's using the hand normally. And he's been great at taking the antibiotic. He's in very good humor and acting normal.

As you can see from the picture, the bandage lasted about two hours. As soon as my back was turned to make his lunch, it was off!

Update: We went back to the pediatrician this morning and the splinter is out!!! YES!

The smallest things can make my heart melt.

Today was a regular Monday. Jake went to daycare this morning, I went to the gym, we came home, and Jake surprisingly went down for a nap easily and had a decent one at that.
What he hasn't been doing is sleeping well at night. For the past few nights, he's gotten up in the middle of the night crying and has ended up in my bed. Which wouldn't be so awful...except that he likes to wake up for the day before 6am. I'm nostalgic for the 8am wake ups. I miss those. I did reinstate his bottle tonight, we'll see how he does. If not, I'll have to break out the sleeping books again and do some sleep training. Which I don't enjoy, but the rewards are too good.

Now, for the heart melting stuff. When I dropped Jake off at daycare, I take off his winter clothes, and put his indoor shoes. Today, as I was done tying his shoes, he got up, Jake me a kiss on the cheek (he does a "mouahh" sound now too), then went on his way to play. It's the little things that make my heart melt.

After nap time, Jake had some raisins upstairs while I was getting a few things done. We stopped and cuddled in bed and Jake would eat a raisin, then give me a raisin. It was sweet.

My baby is 19 months!!

It's the last of the teen months for Jake. I actually didn't take any pictures today. I completely forgot.

But here are a few vintage pictures from one year ago. Jacob at 7 months, I can't believe how much he has grown!

Puzzles

We've had a great couple days. Jake is finally healthy again, though I'm still leery about giving him milk since the last few times his stomach couldn't handle it. I've decided to seize the opportunity to wean him from his bottle. Hopefully he does well when I introduce milk in his sippy cup. On the plus side, it hasn't affect bedtime at all, on the downside, he's been getting up pretty early in the morning. I don't know if that's a coincidence or not.
Jake went back to daycare on Thursday and Friday, he wasn't the only sick kid, over half of the kids were out. It was a mini epidemic!
Today, we took advantage of a sunny day and went for a nice long walk with my mom. We also went out again after his non-nap to look at the horses and play with a ball.
Oh, and we watched Madagascar 2, and Jake shakes him booty to the song: "I like to move it". It's hilarious. I'll try to catch it on video.
Playing with his puzzle, he's actually pretty good. He finish it alone. He brings the board on the table, then goes back in forth getting one piece at the time from his basket. It's cute and keeps him entertained for a long time.

Watching Dumbo on tv.
I love this outfit, isn't the moose adorable. I also like Jake in the color orange, I think it suits him.

Frustration!

Jake has some new habits, well some are old and are coming back.
He no longer says "more" when he wants food, instead, he stands at the gate and yells and points.
He throws utensils and food on the floor. Constantly.
He's always going for the drawer in the hutch, or going behind the couch to play with the power bar.
But then, he goes up to you and gives you hugs and kisses on the cheek. Or he brings you a book to read. Or he giggles.
He's just a funny bean, sometime he drives me crazy, but I love him lots!
Here are a few pictures from today, we had a quiet day at home.

We went swimming today!

We had playgroup today, and had a field trip at the pool. I debated whether to go or not, but Jake had been symptom free for well over 24 hours.
I wasn't able to take pictures at the pool, I didn't want to get my camera wet, and I had my hands full with Jake.
Jake did ok, he's still very hesitant in the water, and clings onto me alot. We'll be going back, I want him to get used to the water.
We went to McDonald's for lunch with the others. This boy can chow down a chicken nugget happy meal like it's no one's business. He loves the fries too..uh oh!
We played at home this afternoon, then went for a walk with my mom before supper. This is how Jake plays with his farm. He always sits on that chair backwards.

Just about to get his bottle before bed.
